Mary Ellen Heelan, a native of Downers Grove,Illinois has had an eclectic career, starting out as a Social Studies teacher in Oklahoma and Virginia; then moving into a thirty-year career in health care. She has held management positions in operations, marketing, sales, quality and regulatory compliance in hospital, long term care, senior housing, hospice and home health settings. She is a Board-Certified Music Therapist, who currently owns her own business, Heelan Music, offering music therapy and entertainment. She specializes in working with Geriatric, Hospice and Psychiatric clients. She sings, plays the piano, accordion and the hammered dulcimer, which has a harp-like sound. Ms. Heelan has a B.A. in History from Saint Xavier University, Chicago where she graduated magna cum laude; a B. Mus. in Music Therapy from DePaul University, Chicago where she was a summa cum laude graduate and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. She has been an Assistant Professor in the Health Systems Management School of Rush University and is the immediate past president of the McHenry County Task Force on Aging. She serves on the Board of Faith in Action McHenry County, is a former member of the Senior Services Associates Advisory Council and an immediate past president of the McHenry County Task Force on Aging. She has three children, two step-children and ten grandchildren and lives in Cary, Illinois.
