Suggested Alternatives for Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year”

I usually don’t pay that much attention to Time Magazines Person of the Year because I’ve noticed over the years that they have transitioned from honoring people who made a difference to people who have gotten a lot of news time (mostly negative). However; this year I have to say that I was more than a little incensed when Time Magazine named Protestors as their “Person of the Year”.

So I would like to offer the Editors of Time Magazine some more worthy alternatives for their Person of the Year:

  1. Military personnel who have chosen to sacrifice to serve and protect our country. Many have lost their lives defending not just our freedom but the freedom of those around the world.

  2. Clergy whose life work it is to help the homeless and feed the hungry, a number that is growing due to the economy, as well as comforting the sick and the grieving.

There are an estimated 65 million Family Caregivers, some of whom had to battle the “occupy protesters” to get to their place of work to be able to keep the roof over their heads and food on the table, along with assist in paying for the care needs of their family. This group is tasked daily with meeting the demands that go along with the increasing needs of an elderly parent or growing child. Many sacrifice personal time with family and friends in order to manage the care coordination of their loved one.

As a free society, the Time Magazine editorial board can choose whomever they want for their “Person of the Year”. However; my choice for Person of the Year goes to the Family Caregivers. Thank you for all you do every day to help those around you.
